Police in Embu have launched investigations into the death of a secondary school principal who died under unclear circumstances.

The Maviani Mixed Secondary School principal, Julius Mweu collapsed in his rental house at Gategi Market on Sunday after he developed breathing problems.

He was rushed to the WhiteRose private hospital at the neighbouring Kirinyaga county but died while being treated.

According to the Riakanau location senior chief Kimeu Musyimi, neighbours heard the principal groaning and forced their way into his room, only to find him gasping for air and took him to the hospital but sadly he passed away.

"We have lost a principal who was so good," said the administrator.

Neighbours narrated how the principal arrived at the market on Saturday evening and went straight to the bar where he took a few drinks before proceeding to his house.

However, the neighbours were shocked when the principal fell sick at the wee hours of Sunday.

Investigations commenced

Mbeere South Sub-County police boss, Gregory Mutiso said investigations were commenced immediately the principal was pronounced dead.

He told relatives to be patient and wait for the police to complete their investigations.

"We want to establish the actual cause of death of the principal and relatives should be patient enough," he said.

Mr Mutiso said the principal was put on oxygen on arrival at the hospital but did not survive.
