A young man was on Sunday evening stabbed to death and another one seriously injured outside a bar in Runyenjes town, Embu County.

The survivor is now fighting for his life at Runyenjes Sub-County Hospital where he was rushed following the incident which caused panic in the busy town.

According to residents, the dead man, 21-year-old Victor Murimi Mwiti, was standing outside the bar with his colleagues when they were confronted by the assailant.

Without any provocation, the attacker drew a knife from his pocket and attacked the two, killing Mr Mwiti on the spot.

The assailant then fled and went into hiding.

Moments later, police arrived at the scene and took Mr Mwiti’s body to the mortuary while his colleague was taken to hospital.

Later, detectives flushed out the suspected attacker from his hideout and locked him up at the local police station for interrogation.

Establish motive

Runyenjes police boss Benjamin Muhia said investigations had begun to establish the motive of the attack.

“We have seized the attacker and he may face murder and assault charges after we are through with investigations," Mr Muhia said.

Residents said they suspected the assailant was under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime.

“Mostly likely the suspect, who is well known in the area, is a drug addict," one of the residents said.

The residents said they were shocked by the attack.
