The daughter of Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto Ms Emmy Chepng’etich Ruto has died.

According to a statement signed by Mr Micah Ruto for the family, Ms Ruto, 25, died Friday morning at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

Until her death, Ms Ruto was working as an electrical engineer with the Geothermal Development Company in Nakuru.

She was also the captain of the Kenya women’s cricket team.

The Cricket Kenya Development manager, David ‘Pamba’ Odhiambo, said that Miss Ruto was admitted to hospital on Saturday, October 18 after a short ailment.

Emmy took over as team captain in 2008 and has represented the country in two world cup qualifiers; 2010 in Nairobi and in Dar es Salaam in 2012.

GOODWILL AMBASSADOR

She has toured Uganda, Tanzania and South Africa and was a cricket goodwill ambassador for Kenya.

She was introduced to the game when she was a student at the Kenya High School, by Dun Okinyo, Cricket Kenya’s Women Cricket Development Officer.

Mr Okinyo said that players, male and female, went to Aga Khan Hospital on Saturday and Sunday to donate blood for Ms Ruto.

“Miss Ruto was the backbone of Women’s cricket in the country. She was an all-rounder who gave 100 per cent performance on the ground,” Mr Okinyo said.

Ms Ruto was one of the two female cricketers who trained at the Africa Cricket Academy, South Africa in October 2011 (Sara Bhakita was the other one).
