Today marks a historic occasion for The Kenya Bankers DT SACCO Limited. We are celebrating our Golden Jubilee with our heads held high. This significant milestone is one we are proud to commemorate and will always treasure.
I laud the Sacco’s visionary founding members for establishing an organisation that has transformed the lives of thousands of Kenyans. We will sustain that spirit.
The leadership and the membership across the 50 years have worked together to build a formidable institution. I salute them all. To the Ministry, our regulator, as well as our business partners, I say thank you for your consistent support.
As we reflect on our Sacco’s illustrious past, we also cast our eyes on the future. Collectively as The Kenya Bankers DT SACCO Limited fraternity, and particularly my Board and Management, we are determined to build a successful future for our esteemed organisation.
We envision great things for our Sacco as it moves into its next 50 years. In the short-term, we see the initiatives outlined in our Strategic Plan unlocking the Sacco’s potential. In the long-term, our aim is to keep growing The Kenya Bankers DT SACCO Limited into an even more influential institution that will secure the financial future of multitudes of Kenyans.
Our quest to onboard young Kenyans is already bearing fruit. For example, Barizi, a savings product we developed for this segment of the population, is becoming popular. We intend to roll out more products designed to support the financial goals of our youth. We have also taken steps to retain our senior members who are approaching retirement, as well as those already in retirement. Our medical insurance product, Afya Imara, resonates with the needs of these members.
Banking on our rich history, extensive business network and innovativeness, we are expanding our footprint to reach the underbanked and the unbanked. This approach is paying dividends.
Last year, we won the competitive Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) business competition to deliver financial services to both the host and refugee communities in Kakuma-Kalobeyei, Turkana County. We received a grant of $600,000 (approximately Ksh78 million) for on-lending as affordable credit to these communities. This initiative is helping to unlock their economic potential. By the end of last year, we had provided more than 3,100 individuals with flexible savings plans, affordable credit, and financial education.
It is my firm conviction that, with the support of the Ministry of Co-operatives and MSME Development, our regulator SASRA and other partners, we will take The Kenya Bankers DT SACCO Limited to greater heights. Join us. We shall be honoured to support your financial growth plans.
