There is overwhelming evidence that Uganda continues to be the most preferred destination for higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is largely due to high quality training, reasonable and affordable tuition fees as well as accommodation costs, and the notable hospitality for which the Pearl of Africa is famous. In response to the dynamic technological advances, the International Business, Science and Technology (ISBAT) University was established to provide an enabling training and research environment for societal transformation. In the past several years, ISBAT has won a number of industrial and professional recognitions.
Recently in 2024, Times Higher Education, UK, ranked ISBAT University amongst the Top 10 universities in Sub-Saharan Africa, with high scores in “Best Teaching Skills. The London-based prestigious British magazine reports specifically on news and issues related to global higher education.
The November 2024 issue ranked ISBAT in the same league as some of Africa’s leading giants, such as the University of Johannesburg and University of Ghana, Legon.
Best Private Technology University
Earlier awards and honours are, “Best Private Technology University” and “Best Chartered University in East Africa” in 2023/24, as a Platinum Winner. Others are: East Africa Brand Quality Award (Platinum Winner 2022); Quality Excellence Award for Best ICT Engineering and Business Solutions University in East Africa; and Best Visionary Blended Teaching International University of the Year, among others.
ISBAT is one of the few chartered universities in Uganda. It was established in 2006 in the leafy up-scale suburbs of Kololo, Kampala. Its city centre campus in Kampala is an ultimate centre of excellence for learning technology integrated programmes in ICT, Engineering, Business and Commerce, and Public Health.
ISBAT offers quality education from certificate and diploma level to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD levels. The university has international learning centres in Kenya, Somalia and Nigeria, with the student population being made up of more than 30 nationalities.
In Kenya, ISBAT offers several diploma courses that are approved by the TVET Authority. JP International and Industry Qualifications located at Upper Hill Nairobi, serve as the university’s local representative office.
ISBAT offers several STEM-focused and business degrees. These are three-year PhDs, two-year Masters, three-year Bachelors, two-year diploma and certificate studies at either on-campus fulltime, online, or blended learning, depending on the student’s preferences.
Modern campus
ISBAT University provides modern learning facilities, which include smart lecture halls, air-conditioned computer labs with upwards of 1,000 computers, and an extensively stocked physical and digital library.
Others are networking platforms that support cross-disciplinary collaborations and multi-layer technologies, engineering and science labs, and video conferencing/web casting facilities.

The university also has multiple modern technology labs for studies in Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Centre Virtualisation, Data Science, Engineering, Ethical Hacking, Cyber Forensics, Augmented and Virtual Realities, VFX Effects, etc. The computer animation and multimedia studio caters for real animation needs.
Accreditation of programmes
All the programmes and courses are approved by Uganda’s National Council for Higher Education – the highest education accrediting body in the country. Business Management programmes are also recognised by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education in USA, and Universidad Catolica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM) Spain. The courses are industry-relevant and dynamic, designed by international experts in industry and academia.
Areas of research
Some of the recent thrust areas are Internet of Things; Prediction of Covid-19 (and possibly other pandemics) using genetic deep learning convolutional neural network, and microfinance as a catalyst of agri-business.
Other successfully completed research projects are Deficiency Severity Using Machine Learning Methods; Biosensor for Glucose Concentration Measurement in Urine; Air Pollution Monitoring System Using Wireless Networks and Cloud Computing; and Exploitation of Social Media for Education Delivery, to mention a few.
International partnerships
ISBAT University collaborates with a number of international institutions such as UCAM Spain, a leading European university. In particular, MBA students may earn a dual degree upon successful completion of study at both ISBAT and UCAM. The others are SRM University, Andhra Pradesh, India, and Shobhit University, Uttar Pradesh, India.
The university is an active member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (UK), Association of Indian Universities, International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants, and the International Accreditation Council for Business Education. Others are IT Academy, VMWare, Project Management Institute (USA), CISCO Academy, Microsoft, CompTIA, RedHat Academy, and Prometric Testing.
As a member of the Future Education and Technology Group, ISBAT University is among the top 10 universities in Uganda. Also, it is well recognised and respected for imparting high-quality technological education, research, and training in East Africa.

The respective “Faculty of Studies” are committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence where students engage in impactful research that addresses global challenges. With a focus on interdisciplinary studies and industry-relevant training, the faculty prepares learners for leadership roles in academia, industry, and beyond.
Several diploma courses are accredited by TVET Authority in Kenya. These are designed with a strong focus on hands-on training and industry relevance. The faculty ensures that students are well-prepared to meet the demands of the job market or to pursue further education.
The university also offers bridging programmes for students who do not directly quality for admissions to university studies. This includes students from foreign countries whose higher secondary school qualifications are not equivalent to the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) also known as ‘A’ Level.
The UACE is a two-year upper secondary school qualification in Uganda whose minimum university entrance is comparable to Kenya’s KCSE C+ and above or Tanzania’s NECTA ‘A’ level or GCE A-Level in the UK.
