At this year’s Nation Photo Festival, TECNO Mobile Kenya exhibited its phones including the iconic Camon 30 Premier 5G. The event ran on October 21-22, 2024 at the National Museums of Kenya, Nairobi, with visitors to the TECNO stand inquiring about the Camon 30 series of smartphones, among other models.
On the opening day of the festival, TECNO conducted a practical photo session and the visitors present at the stand were impressed with the clear images. Most of them wanted to know more about the phone.
The interest in the Camon 30 Premier 5G is understandable, as this phone is considered a ‘portrait master’ because of its powerful, highly functional camera that delivers sharp, clear images with little or no noise.
TECNO Mobile Kenya’s Image Tech Product Manager, Ms Suzanne Atieno Otieno, alludes to this quality when talking about content creators’ quest for a camera that serves their needs.
“We inform young people who are keen on content creation that they don’t need a big camera to get quality images,” she explains.
Ms Otieno says the Camon 30 Premier 5G digital camera does that job well. All that the photographers need is to inject some creativity into the art of taking photos or videos. “For example, they can turn a photo into an intriguing silhouette during a sundowner,” she says.
She adds that knowing or understanding the basics of photography, such as composition, lighting, depth of field and exposure, improves the quality of photos.

Unique cameras
The Camon 30 Premier 5G has a PolarAce AI image processor that takes clear photos even at night. The phone has a 50MP main camera, a 50MP periscope lens and a 50MP ultra-wide angle camera, giving users a wide variety of photographic options. One can take close-ups, especially of portraits, or expansive views of landscapes.
The Camon 30 Premier 5G has one of the best portrait engines. It allows black people to photos that depict their actual skin tone. The camera is able to restore every unique aspect of African beauty, skin tone and details.
The camera also provides AI-generated content, whereby it takes four photos in quick succession and processes three of them into various exciting versions.
This smartphone delivers good resolution videos with 4K@30fps. Its dual view mode enables the user to simultaneously view people at the front and those at the back, offering the opportunity for interesting takes. The phone has a slow motion option of 240fps.
If you leave the camera on for long, it displays a message informing you so, and then goes into a power-saving mode.
The Camon 30 Premier 5G launched in Kenya in March this year and has had good uptake. Two months ago, TECNO Mobile Kenya conducted research that showed how well the phone has been received, with those interviewed giving positive reviews.

Colours
The Camon 30 Premier 5G comes in three colours: Hawaii Lava black, Alps Snowy Blue, and LOEWE Edition. All the phone’s black parts are made from sustainable eco-friendly leather.
Ms Otieno says TECNO is committed to improving the cameras of its phones, to continually enhance performance. Additionally, the mobile phone manufacturer seeks to introduce more features in every new model.
She adds that every year, TECNO brings to the market improved versions of the previous year’s model. For example, the company introduced the Camon 20 in 2023. It then launched the Camon 30 this year. “We have a huge commitment to making our products even better,” asserts Ms Otieno.
