Little-known Kinyago United beats Biafra FC to clinch Odibets Amani Mtaani Cup

Football enthusiasts were treated to a thrilling battle for the Odibets Amani Mtaani tournament last weekend at Desert grounds in Nairobi's Carlifonia estate.
The annual Odibets tournament, which ran from Friday to Sunday, involved 32 teams that squared it out for the coveted cup, according to the Odibet’s Youtube Channel.
The final match of the three-day showpiece saw Kinyago United beat Biafra FC to clinch the Odibets cup on Sunday after a penalty shoot-out, dethroning the latter, who were the reigning champions.
Kinyago United sent the stadium into Jubilation with a section of the fans chanting, “Kinyago FC kiboko yao!”, Sheng for “Kinyago FC is their match”, after the team scooped the title.
“My team really performed well. It’s through hard work and prayer that we have reached this far. We still don’t believe we have won this tournament,” said Samuel Ndonye, who scored Kinyago’s winning goal.
The tournament, which saw football fans from different walks of life gather to enjoy the beautiful game of soccer, was sponsored by one of Kenya's leading online sports betting firms, Odibets.
“We, as a company will always strive to help nurture local talent by supporting such kind of initiatives like this Amani Mtaani tournament. You never know; maybe we have the next Michael Olunga or Dennis Oliech among us,” Aggrey Sayi, the head of marketing at Odibets, told Best Soccer Site.
Early last year, scouts from Europe were in the country for the ‘A Totos’ Champion of Champions tournament that had been organised by Odibets.com. The one-day knockout tournament, which was held at Camp Toyoyo in Nairobi’s Eastlands area, attracted several teams around Nairobi County.
“Young Kenyan players find it hard to turn into professional footballers, with most of them being exploited by unscrupulous agents and some failing to nail down places in their teams for more than a year. Tomorrow, they will have the opportunity to impress scouts from Europe who can guarantee them a path towards turning professional,” said the newly appointed Kenya National team coach Ghost Mulei, during the launch of the tournament.
