Action by gaming firm ends water problems at Namgoi Mixed Day Secondary School

A Mozzart Bet delegation led by country manager Sasa Krneta (fourth from left), popular influencer 'Oga Obinna' (third from left), and actress Trisha Khalid, display a dummy cheque representing the value of the Mozzart Water Project at Namgoi school in Nandi. The facility was officially unveiled on February 7, 2025.
Namgoi Mixed Day Secondary School in Kapsabet town, Nandi County, will no longer need to part with money to pay water bills. Neither will the learners be compelled to use unsafe river water during rationing by the local water service provider.
Thanks to leading gaming firm Mozzart Bet, the school now has its own borehole. The colourful ceremony to commission the facility was held on Friday, February 7. This borehole is the 16th under Mozzart’s Action 100 Wells programme.
The school houses 904 learners, 32 teachers and tens of support staff. In a day, it consumes more than 5,000 litres, leading it to part with at least Ksh45,000 per month for the precious commodity.
Moreover, the adjacent Namgoi Primary School, which has a population of more than a thousand pupils, and the nearby Bible college, occasionally source water from the institution, increasing the financial burden.
Now the Namgoi fraternity is smiling after Mozzart Bet solved one of their biggest problems by sinking and powering a borehole in record time.
After the necessary approvals by the relevant authorities, the contractor moved on site on December 17, 2024, and found clean water after sinking more than 200 metres.
The solar-powered borehole discharges 2,800 litres per hour, with all water parameters receiving a clean bill of health from the Government Chemist.
Wearing multiple hats as the Mozzart Bet Country Manager, Chairman of the Association of Gaming Operators Kenya (AGOK), and Chief Guest at the commissioning ceremony, Sasa Krneta, flanked by a delegation of other guests, was at hand to open the project.
“Four years and counting, Namgoi Secondary School has graciously been our host for the Mozzart-powered Re-Discover Nandi Road Race, one of the most exciting athletics events in the country. This great institution has not only allowed us to place the finish line within its premises, but has also provided space for us to host the post-race activities in its compound. When a request to sink a borehole was made, it was difficult to say no to this institution which has always received and treated us with nothing but love, respect, and kindness,” Krneta said.
He continued: “I am happy to see the school getting water at long last. We have witnessed schools in which we have had the privilege of sinking boreholes improve in academic performance. I hope to come back and celebrate academic excellence."
Joining Krneta at the guests' table was the Conservation Secretary, State Department of Wildlife, and a long-term friend of the school Dr John Chumo.
Chumo heaped praises on Mozzart for their swift response and delivery in less than two months after committing to tackle the water problem in the school.
"We have seen projects being launched and little or no progress is made later on. However, Mozzart have done the borehole within a very short time, which is commendable. As friends of the school, we are confident that the mean grade will go up as we all know the significance of clean water in a school," said Chumo.
School Principal Kipchumba Korir could not contain his joy after the taps discharged clean water shortly after the borehole was commissioned.
"We are happy to finally have our own source of water, thanks to Mozzart Bet. I knew Mozzart through the annual Nandi Road Race with Dr Chumo playing a big role in linking us. Sometimes our learners would use unsafe water from the river, exposing them to diseases and other risks. We also experienced a decline in attendance when we had water issues as this school is in an urban area. Words cannot truly express our gratitude to Mozzart for this amazing project," said Korir.
The event was overseen by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB), who had their Deputy Director Frederick Mbaisi on location.
BCLB urged other gaming firms to emulate Mozzart and come up with projects that will make the community more comfortable.
"I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Mozzart Bet for their dedication and commitment to making a positive impact in different parts of the country, including this area. This project is a shining example of how betting firms can play an essential role in societal development beyond their core business operations," stated BCLB chairperson Jane Makau in a statement that was read by Mbaisi.
Apart from the borehole, Mozzart donated sanitary towels and essential food items like rice, wheat flour, cooking oil, beans, and sugar, among others.
Further, the firm donated 200 jerricans, reflector jackets and t-shirts to the parents and friends of the school who had attended the ceremony.

Namgoi residents mill around the newly launched Mozzart Water Project at Namgoi Mixed Day Secondary School in Nandi County.
Apart from the Action 100 Wells, Mozzart contributes immensely to the development of sports and the well-being of the community in the country.
The firm sponsors FKF Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz, the FKF Cup, the Re-Discover Nandi Road Race, Iten International Marathon, and Chemususu Dam Half Marathon, among others.
Since last year, Mozzart Bet has been dignifying the conditions in which learners study by constructing modern toilets, with Kwa Koko and Waa Primary Schools in Machakos and Kwale counties respectively being the first beneficiaries.
