What you need to know:

  • Governors should get together and urgently set up an affordable health insurance fund.
  • The government should address the grievances of lecturers in the public universities.

Exam cheating • Cheating in national exams is a scourge that undermines the credibility of the tests by giving an undue advantage to some candidates, says Ahmed Somow Ahmed. “The illegally favoured candidates get admitted to national schools and universities. Some later drop out due to poor performance. Stern measures are needed to curb the vice,” His contact is [email protected].

Health scheme • As health is a devolved function, Michael Karichu doesn’t understand why the 47 devolved units cannot establish a joint insurance scheme. He’s convinced what he has dubbed as the County Government Insurance Fund (CGIF) would be a pretty good idea. “The governors should get together and urgently set up an affordable health insurance fund.” His contact is [email protected].

Blame game • The lecturers in the public universities are not to blame for the two strikes staged during the current academic semester, hugely disadvantaging the students, says Elvis Musumba. “The government should listen to their cry for better pay and other terms of service. They have every right to withhold their labour if their grievances are not addressed.” His contact is [email protected].

Double speak • Talk about double speak, and to David Waireri, one does not need to look further than the ODM party. Before it sent its top officials to join government, he recalls, everything about it was wrong and corrupt. “Now, all the projects being undertaken are OK. The Adani Group deals are above board. It’s now time for the ruling class to eat.” His contact is [email protected].

Culture • The Turkana Cultural Festival, Linda Agutu says, has left her full of pride. “What a joy to see such rich display of culture! Other counties should also dedicate a day to celebrate their cultures with the pomp, colour and rich heritage witnessed in the Tobong’u Lore (coming home) fete. There is no better appreciation of our roots and unique cultures.” Her contact is [email protected].

Have an elegant day, won’t you!
