Somalia's National Communication Authority (NCA) has achieved significant milestones by obtaining several prestigious International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications.

According to Somalia’s Minister of Communication and Technology Mohamed Moalim, the achievement will enhance the regulation of communication and technology in the country.

Speaking at the event, Mohamed praised the success of the NCA.

He expressed his belief that this achievement will significantly enhance the regulation of communication and technology in the country.

"I commend the National Communications Authority on receiving three ISO certifications," he stated.

"This accomplishment reflects the agency's dedication and ongoing progress. I hope it will greatly contribute to the regulation of telecommunications and technology in our country."

The Authority was feted in an event held in Mogadishu, for attaining ISO 9001:2015 - Quality Management System (QMS), ISO 27001:2022 - Information Security Management System (ISMS), and ISO 27701:2019 - Privacy Information Management System (PIMS).

NCA Director Mustafa Yasin Sheikh said the certifications reflect the Authority’s dedication and efficiency in delivering on their mandate.

"Acquiring these international ISO certifications is no easy feat. It represents a significant achievement for our agency and reflects the dedication and efficiency that underpin our work," he said.

The certifications highlight NCA’s unwavering commitment to quality management, information security, and privacy protection.

He said the certifications will not only enhance operational performance but also serve as a testament to the NCA's dedication to fostering stakeholder trust and resilience in the face of emerging challenges.

The award ceremony in Mogadishu was attended by a distinguished gathering of government officials, including members of parliament and cabinet ministers, as well as representatives from the telecommunications sector, academia, finance, and civil society.

It was noted that by adhering to these internationally recognised standards, the NCA not only elevates its own organisational capabilities but also contributes to the broader goal of promoting best practices in quality, security, and privacy management across the sector.

The recognition from ISO also underscores the NCA’s role as a leader in national communication governance and its commitment to delivering exceptional services to the public.

In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, adherence to international standards is increasingly recognized as a hallmark of reliability, efficiency, and security.

The ISO plays a pivotal role in establishing global standards that enable organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality, security, and privacy.

ISO 9001:2015 is a globally recognized standard that outlines the criteria for establishing a Quality Management System.

ISO 27001:2022 provides a robust framework for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an Information Security Management System (ISMS).

With the increasing importance of data privacy, ISO 27701:2019 extends the principles of ISO 27001 to include privacy information management.
