A lawyer based in Makueni is recuperating at the Kenyatta National Hospital after a police constable cut off his hand in a domestic scuffle.

Mr Onesmus Masaku was with his lover Nancy Njeri, a police officer at the Makueni Police Station, in his house in Wote town when the incident happened on Wednesday night.

Police said Ms Njeri turned down the lawyer's sexual advances, but the man insisted.

"The lawyer grabbed her and started forcing her to his bedroom. This prompted the officer to grab a panga and cut him on both hands before managing to escape," said Makueni Sub-county Police Commander Timothy Maina.

One of Mr Masaku's hand fell off and the other was left dangling.

Mr Masaku was taken to Makueni County Referral Hospital from where he was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital in critical condition.

Ms Njeri sustained a bite on the right ear and several bites on both hands and fingers and was treated at the Makueni County Referral Hospital and discharged, police said.

Police in Makueni said on Thursday afternoon that they have arrested Ms Njeri and will charge her with attempted murder.
